Why Good Leaders Make You Feel Safe
Simon Sinek talks about good leadership behaviours in his March 2014 TED Talk
He starts with a question, where do leaders with humane qualities come from? Leaders, who can nurture, encourage and are capable mentors. He takes us back into Palaeolithic era when the environment worked to reduce our life span, and was dangerous. Modern day environment is filled with ups and downs in economy, new business models can render an existing one useless. He eloquently argues that leaders within the organization can build the safety net where people feel safe. “Leadership is a choice and not a rank.” Many people at the senior level of the organization are not leaders, they are authorities and people do what they say because they are an authority. But people would not follow them. Many people at the bottom of organization are leaders because they have chosen to look after the people at the left of them and to the right of them. He closes his talk with an inspiring story of a leader in marines.
